But you are also not factoring the steering wheel control adapter that is only going to partially work, and the dash kit that will not look as factory as stock, even the high end Scosche I ran. So I’ll be going that route in the near future.Ĭlick to expand.Agreed it isn't the cheapest route. Much cleaner audio when listening to CD or Bluetooth. I don’t feel like buying a $500 sound processor to fix the issue.įor reference, I threw a $150 Sony HU in my 2002 4Runner with stock speakers and the clarity of sound is overall much better than my Tacoma with all the stuff I listed a few paragraphs above. I guess what I’m getting at is I’ll be changing out the HU at some point. I’m also a 2013 so my rear camera is in my mirror, not my touchscreen so that’s not an issue. I’ve read up on the Axxess steering control box and since it’s plug n play now with a metra harness, seems easy enough to retain stock features. I also want to keep the stock look and features. I play with the tuning and it sounds great for a few days but then it loses its luster and I want more. I’m “content” with the sound, but not satisfied. $190 Sound Ordnance B8PTD Sound Ordnance B-8PTD 8" Powered Subwoofer Sound Ordnance B8PTD powered sub and then a Sony amp running Rocksford Fosgate Punched speakers in my front doors. But, do they correct the alleged Toyota detune problem? Will these higher-end products provide better SQ than a cheaper product like a Does anyone have experiences using these? I understand they do a good job pulling signal from speaker wires and providing RCA input to the amp(s). I've researched products like the LC7i and the ReCurve from *********. Is this true? How much of an impact does that have on final amplified SQ?įurther, I'm finding a world of products that seem to address my situation. I keep hearing about how the Toyota HU "detunes" the sound to "protect" the terrible factory speakers. But, sound quality might be more important. Perhaps more importantly, I really want to keep the factory look on the dash, keep steering wheel controls, and backup camera.Īll of the above points are important to me. I have no real desire for navigation - I'm fine using my phone. However, I'm really happy with the features of the stock radio. I'm only including this info so you know my HU needs. I will probably use a five-channel amp, or I might use a four-channel and single-channel mono amp which I already own. I have plans to replace all speakers and add a sub (or subs) behind the rear seat. I would appreciate hearing about your opinions and experiences with some of the details I'm wrestling with. Huge huge improvement.I hope you guys can help me make the first major decision on my audio upgrade journey. Channel separation, a wee bit of thump l, lol. I knew swapping the radio was going to be an improvement, but oooooomfg I couldn't believe what these crappy stock speakers sound like. You can spend big bucks on a head unit, so it'll be good idea to list out the things you need, vs the things you want, it you decide to go this route. I have a friend who installs and got somewhat of a break, not a whole lot. Radio and everything to install it, with the steering wheel adapter cost about 350. I replaced the 6 disc changer in my '06 with a single din Kenwood excelon. You also get RCA outputs which is a much cleaner signal going to the amps. That money would be better invested in a new head unit imo.Ī new head unit will be free of the built in equalization, and give you one to work with, more than likely. Costs $$, as mentioned in another thread using the stock head unit. I say plural because my '06 has 2 plugs for the speakers. If so, remove the radio and cut the harnesses. I'd suggest going to a junkyard and seeing if there are any 3rd gens.
